Our holiday was only hours old and already it was exciting. Many who know me know that my strength is not in flies or to be more precise is flying in the (joint). In short, flying scares me and not one of my hobbies! Due to lack of time but now it is even necessary, that I must often the boarding an aircraft.
Our way was with Etihad from Frankfurt via Abu Dhabi to Kathmandu ... at least that's the plan. Abu Dhabi until everything went according to plan. There, we got it into our next machine and rolled to the runway. Just before the start was the machine stops. We were told that the engine would not start and the problems should either be resolved or a new machine are needed. The fact I said something in the next hour, the excitement and then we in the machine spent reassured me not much. Then came the redemption, we got a new machine.
with plenty of late we started for Kathmandu and it was already announced turmoil ... Class! When we reached after 4 hours of flight Kathmandu the weather changed and a storm began to spread about our airport. That meant for us a few extra rounds in the storm allowed to turn over the Kathmandu Valley. My pulse rose from minute to minute on a rather uncomfortable pace and I could not think of nicer places for the moment. After about an hour there was a small change. The Kathmandu airport was closed and we could try our luck in Calcutta.
How exciting, now we had to fly even the possibility to India. The flight and the landing proceeded without incident now. However, since no one had a visa for India and not a contract with Etihad Calcutta we were about 4 or 5 hours after landing, keep our seat on the plane. Then we were finally admitted for a few hours to India. The entire aircraft was distributed in the whole of Kolkata on hotels. In this way we were treated to an old taxi about 45 minutes to drive through the city. The ride in the taxi, as well as what we saw on the trip, compensated for the flight stress. Compensate I mean in the sense of gathering impressions. It is frightening what is in this metropolis of more see over 10 million inhabitants in the catchment area, hear and smell gets. This gives an impression of life and the poverty of the people living here. What you read about, heard or saw on TV, can not in the least suspect what is really going on.
